Susan’s Collapse

Susan Boyle got famous trough the TV-show Britain’s Got Talent and immediately became a favorite. She was rushed to a rehab clinic after she collapsed after the final of Britain’s Got Talent. Even though she’s been the favorite throughout the entire show she didn’t win; she came 2nd after the dance group Diversity. Maybe it was because the 1st place was so expected that people just didn’t bother to vote for her? Anyways, the reason for why she was rushed to rehab was because of exhaustion. Some show insiders also claimed that once backstage she yelled, "I hate this show" and hurled a glass of water at a staff member before being driven from the studio.

"Blonde"

I choose to read the short story ”Blonde” by Katherine Min. I read that Katherine in an early age stated to have an interest for writing. She didn’t like the truth too much, so she made up a lot of lies. And this is why she started to write novels, so she could make up stories, and not have to stick with the truth. I think there is a link between this and the short story “Blonde”.

In the text she writes about a girl who is not satisfied with her appearance. She has dark skin and dark eyes, but wants to be blonde with blue eyes. Just like her friend Lisa has. She makes up lies and tells her friends that her mother is from Sweden and her father is an Asian prince. The girl she takes the school bus with has told this to her mother at home, and she sees right through it and understand that she make up lies.

The subject in the text is obviously about not being satisfied with the look you’re born with. This girl finds her friend very beautiful and wished she looked like her. But that is not the case. Everywhere in the world we find people whom are not satisfied with their appearance. And most of us probably have or still wishes something on their body or their look could be different. I think everybody should be happy with what they have got, and make the best out of it!

BLACK HISTORY – MARTIN LUTHER KING, A SHORT VERSION

Martin Luther King was born on January 15th 1929 in Georgia. There he lived with his family and friends. In 1935 Martin was told that because he was black, he no longer could play with his friends, whom were white. Nobody likes to hear that, but obviously Martin Luther got over it and moved on. In 1948 he graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta. Five years later, in 1953, he married Coretta Scott. The next year Martin became a pastor of his own church in Montgomery.

After Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat to a white man on the bus, Martin led a boycott of the busses in Montgomery for two years. In 1963 he led a march in Washington on August 28th, and from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial he gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. In 64 Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

OneNote

Some weeks ago I was introduced to OneNote. I actually got the whole package with Word and all that stuff free from my school. I was super exited! At first I thought OneNote was a bit complicated and I didn’t understood why we just couldn’t use the normal Word document, but now I understand. OneNote is genius and very practical. If you put all your documents there, you’re able to search them up. Now that is all I use:)

This Is England

We saw the film “This is England” in class a while ago. The movie shocked me a bit and it was not like the typical and “regular” movies we usually watch. It is about a boy, I would guess around 12 years old. He lives in England, and gets bullied a lot at school. This has a huge impact on his life. Also the fact that the little boy lost his father in the Falkland was is also hard for him.

One day when he walks home from school, he meets a gang of skinheads. After a while they start to hang a lot together, and they become good friends. The friendship is being tested when one day, one of the leaders in the gang, shows us how big of an issue the racism in England was at that time.

NORTHERN IRELAND

Cecilie gave us a lecture about Northern Ireland and the conflict there. Northern Ireland is located on the northern part of the Irish island and is in union with the United Kingdom. They have been a part of United Kingdom since 1922. The capital is Belfast and the official languages are English and Irish.

The conflict involved the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and the British. In 1923 the British invaded Northern Ireland because they meant that they should be a part of Great Britain. The IRA’s original goal when this happened was to get all of the British establishments out of Ireland and get up an independent Irish government.

The conflict in Northern Ireland had political and religious roots from old times. Some people in Northern Ireland, especially the Protestants, believed it should remain part of the United Kingdom. Others, and then particularly the Catholics, meant it should leave the UK and become a part of Ireland.

It's now over 20 years since the war..

The Falkland War was a war fought between The United Kingdom and Argentina in 1982. As you may understand, the war took place at the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean east of Argentina, which consists of to larger, and a number of small islands.

The people who lived on the islands were european settlers and explorers who has land there. Before the Europeann nations started their colonization, nobody lived there.

The war itself didn't last for too long. It started on the 2th of April with a Argentine invasion, and ended 14th of June, when they had to surrender.
At this time the Falkland territories belonged to the British.

As a result of the war, nearly 900 men lost their lives.

Devolution in UK

My little getaway

In just a few weeks I'm heading over to London, and I am super exited! I have never been to London before, or The UK for that matter. I'm going with my mom, and we are staying at a friends apartment. Since we don't have to pay for staying at a hotel, we can spend more money on shopping instead!!! Of course are we gonna visit famous buildings and places London is known for as well.

I love to travel and I haven't been traveling since the summer, so I am really looking forward to this trip! London, be prepared:)

My hometown!

I'm from a place called Hosle, just outside Oslo. I've lived here my whole life and I'm enjoying myself here! Hosle is in Bærum municipality. The nearest city from me is Sandvika, a rather small city, which is also where I go too school. Next to our school is Norways biggest shopping center. There is also a move theater in Sandvika, which I visited a lot back in the days:)

In the center of Sandvika city there is great opportunities for bus- and train traveling.

Just outside of Sandvika city you find Kadettangen, where you can choose between taking a swim at the beach, play footbal at a small stadion, look at boats if that's an interest, or take a trip over to Kalvøya, which is a small island only a bridge away from Kadettangen. In the summer there is held a festival here for kids, with live music and fun activitets for the children.
